US President Trump has signed an executive order delaying planned tariff increases on imported kitchen and bathroom cabinets, furniture, and related hardware products. The current 25% tariff rate will remain in place until January 1, 2027, postponing the original plan to raise tariffs to 50% for cabinets and 30% for certain furniture items. This decision comes amid concerns that higher tariffs would exacerbate inflationary pressures, as US furniture prices rose 4.7% year-on-year in August 2025, with living room furniture costs surging 9.5%. For global hardware manufacturers, particularly Chinese exporters (who supply 23% of US furniture imports), the delay provides much-needed stability, preventing sudden cost increases and securing order predictability. Industry experts advise shippers to adjust logistics plans accordingly, as the reprieve offers a window to strengthen market positions in the US.
